How to take care of your dog on hot days

Summer is in full swing and the temperature outside is rising.

Here are thoughtful tips to help your dog survive the heat in comfort and safety.

1. Access to water: the key to health

Providing your dog with constant access to fresh water is essential for its health, especially on hot days. Regardless of whether we are at home or while traveling, it is important to always have a bowl of water at hand.

Tip: If you're planning a trip, make sure your dog has plenty of water to keep him hydrated and energized during the trip. Hydration is the key to our pet's comfort and well-being during summer fever.

2. Limiting activity during the hottest hours

A walk at dawn can be magical. The world is still sleeping and the air is cool and fresh. It's the perfect time for a long walk with your dog, avoiding the heat.

3. Cooling Vests: protection against overheating

This is an effective way to keep dogs comfortable on hot days. Protection against overheating is particularly important, especially when our pets love spending time outdoors. A cooling vest is a simple but extremely useful tool that will allow your pet to enjoy movement and activity, regardless of the temperature outside. It is worth investing in their well-being and ensuring their comfort during the summer heat.

4. Paw Protection: avoid hot asphalt

Unfortunately, paw burns are a common problem on hot days. To avoid this, try to walk your dog in the shade of trees or on lawns.

Tip: If you have to cross asphalt, check its temperature by touching it with your hand. If it's too hot for your hand, it will be too hot for your dog's paws.

5. Cool Spots: Provide shade

In the shade of a tree, under an umbrella on the beach, or in a cool place at home - make sure your dog has a place to rest from the sun.

6. Life jackets: water safety

Even if your dog is a great swimmer, it's always a good idea to give him some extra protection. A life jacket not only provides support for your dog in the water, but also ensures that you can easily pull him out if necessary.

7. Frequent Baths: Cool down for the dog

There's nothing better than cooling off on a hot day. You can give your dog a cool bath in a bathtub, a children's pool or a lake.

Tip: If your dog isn't a fan of bathing, try using a garden hose or simply wet his fur.

8. Watch for signs of overheating

Knowledge on this topic is crucial. Signs of overheating include: intense panting, drooling, weakness or vomiting. If you notice these symptoms in your dog, go to the vet immediately.

9. Cooling down: ice cream for dogs

Why not prepare something delicious and cooling for your dog? There are special dog treats available on the market for hot days, but you can also make them yourself at home.

10. Night Out: Exploration after dark

Night walks are not only an escape from the heat, but also new experiences for your dog. Other smells, sounds and climates can be a real adventure for him.

Summary

Hot days require special care for our dogs. Providing access to fresh water, limiting activity during the hottest hours, using cooling and life jackets, avoiding hot asphalt, providing shade and frequent bathing are crucial for the health and comfort of our four-legged friends. Additionally, remember to keep an eye on your dog during hot weather and respond to signs of overheating. Thanks to these simple but important steps, your dog will be able to enjoy summer adventures in complete safety.
